The Chicago Blackhawks are already without Patrick Kane with an injury, and now it looks like they might lose their captain for a while after he was injured following taking a big hit from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik on Sunday.
The hit occurred in the second period. Toews was gathering the puck along the boards and didn't see Orpik coming, leading to one of the hardest hits of the season by far:
Toews immediately grabbed his arm or shoulder and limped off to the locker room. Here's a closer look at the hit:
Toews clearly had no idea Orpik was coming, but it appears the hit was more brutal than illegal. That didn't stop half of the Blackhawks roster from having a few words with Orpik after the incident, however. Toews hasn't returned to the game and the Blackhawks haven't updated his condition, but Chicago has dominated play since he left.
