Dustin Penner trade: Capitals acquire forward on National Pancake Day

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Capitals have acquired Dustin Penner from the Anaheim Ducks for a fourth-round pick.

The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Dustin Penner from the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday afternoon, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.

The move is one of several transactions the Ducks are reportedly making.

Penner was participating in morning skate when reporters noticed the forward leaving the ice:

Moments later, Penner tweeted two emojis that show a person running and a waving hand (editor's note: seriously can't believe I'm including that as part of evidence that he was traded):

Penner is in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the season.

In addition to the Penner trade, reports indicate the Ducks have traded goaltender Viktor Fasth to the Edmonton Oilers and are in the process of acquiring defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars. While the trades haven't become official, the primary insiders -- Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie -- are reporting that they are done.

The Ducks will receive a fourth-round pick for Penner, but the masses have received so much more seeing as today is National Pancake Day. In case you didn't know, Penner has a unique history with pancakes.
