5 NHL Questions: King Henrik goes for 300th win, Blues seek Western Conference dominance

Maddie Meyer

A daily feature which asks the five biggest questions about today's NHL action. Will they be answered? (That doesn't count as one of the five questions.)

1. Will the Blues overtake Chicago in the Western Conference?

The odds seem to favor St. Louis when they visit Minnesota on Sunday. St. Louis is 17-0-1 against their Central Division-mates this season and have shown no signs of letting up. Another win and the Blues would claim the top spot in the Western Conference.

2. Can Henrik Lundqvist get his 300th win?

A lot more than playoff positioning will be on the line when the Rangers take on the Red Wings on Sunday, as King Henrik will try for win No. 300 in his career. He faces a tough challenge, as Detroit is coming off of its biggest offensive output of the season in a 7-4 win against New Jersey on Friday night.

3. Can the Kings make it six in a row?

No team has been quite as dominant as the Los Angeles Kings since the Olympic Break. The Kings have gone 5-0-0 since NHL play resumed, extending their lead over the Phoenix Coyotes for third place in the Pacific to nine games. They'll have to find a way to score on old teammate Ben Scrivens if they want to keep the streak going on Sunday.

4. Will Patrick Kane dazzle in his hometown?

The Buffalo native returns home for the first time since 2010. On paper, the matchup seems to favor a huge night for Kane and the Blackhawks. The Sabres are a jumbled mess this season and have allowed 88 shots in its last two games. Expect Kane to have an extra jump in his step on Sunday.

5. Can Reilly Smith rediscover his scoring touch?

Boston's leading scorer is in quite a rut. Smith hasn't scored in his last 11 games, despite scoring the winning goal in the shootout on Saturday against the Lightning. Coach Claude Julien showed he clearly believes in the kid by selecting him in the shootout, so perhaps he'll break out again on Sunday.
