Nathan MacKinnon stays in game after nasty fall into post

The last thing Colorado wants to see is their young star going head first into the goal post.

The Colorado Avalanche received quite a scare on Thursday night when rookie sensation Nathan MacKinnon took a nasty fall into the goal post after he was tripped by Vancouver's Alex Edler on his way to the net.

Edler was given a two-minute minor for tripping on the play.

MacKinnon stumbled when he tried to get up but somehow ended up staying in the game, taking his regular shifts over the final five minutes of the second period.

Entering play on Thursday MacKinnon was first among all rookies in goals (24), assists (38), points (62) and shots on goal (229). He is the clear favorite for the NHL's rookie of the year award and has been one of the biggest factors in Colorado's surprising performance this season.
