The good news for the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday is that they were able to hold off a late Dallas Stars rally in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series and sneak away with a 4-3 win.
The potentially bad news came in the final seconds when Ryan Getzlaf, the second-leading scorer in the NHL this season, was hit in the face by a Tyler Seguin slap shot and had to rush off the ice and immediately head to the locker room.
Getzlaf finished with a goal and an assist in the Ducks' win. Anaheim opened the game with four straight goals, including three in the first period, and built what seemed to be an insurmountable lead. But Dallas kept chipping away at it throughout the night and very nearly tied it on more than one occasion in the final minutes.
This was the second play on Wednesday that saw a player getting hit up high by a shot. Montreal's Brendan Gallagher was hit in the throat during its overtime win over Tampa Bay but was able to return for his next shift.
