Stanley Cup playoffs: Blackhawks lead 3-2 following wild 1st period

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The United Center truly is a madhouse so far in Game 7.

We tried to warn you. The Western Conference Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings has been a roller coaster of a series, so it's only natural that Game 7 is absolutely bonkers after just one period.

When Chicago took a 2-0 lead early in the first period, it seemed like we might be in for a rather tame series finale. Brandon Saad opened the scoring goal from a bad angle minutes into the game, and Jonathan Toews followed him minutes later with a power play goal of his own.

But then Los Angeles came roaring back and the game began flying off the rails. Jeff Carter narrowed the deficit by swatting in a goal over Corey Crawford eight minutes after Toews' goal.

Slapslap

Less than a minute later, Justin Williams scored his latest crucial playoff goal to tie the game at 2-2. Just like that, the Blackhawk's well-earned lead was erased in sixty seconds.

BUT WAIT! There's more! Not twelve seconds later, Patrick Sharp shot a knuckleball bouncing past Jonathan Quick to give Chicago a lead again.

Time for a deep breath, right? Wrong. It's Game 7 between the Kings and Blackhawks. There's apparently no time for breathing.
