The San Jose Sharks have selected forward prospect Nikolay Goldobin with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Goldobin, 18, is a left-handed shooter who has spent time at left wing over the last two seasons with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. Selected with the No. 36 overall selection in the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, Goldobin was also selected with the No. 8 overall selection in the 2012 KHL Draft by the Metallurg Novokuznetsk. He ultimately opted to continue his career in North America.

Making his debut in the OHL during the 2012-13 season, Goldobin registered a point-per game during his rookie campaign (68 points in 68 games) and led all rookies in goals (30) and total points. He followed up the impressive performance by surpassing his totals in all three primary offensive categories by registering 38 goals and 56 assists for a total of 94 points.

Listed at 5'11, 178 pounds, Goldobin finished as the No. 28 overall prospect in the ISS yearend ranking. Praised for his creativity and offensive prowess, the ISS project Goldobin to be a top-six forward and a power play specialist:

Goldobin played this season for a poor team that struggled all season. However, that didn't prevent him from finishing as the second leading scorer in the OHL amongst draft eligible players, just one point behind Oshawa's Michael Dal Colle. Goldobin is a slick and crafty winger who seemingly can slide in and out of seams and holes with smoothness and deception. The crafty Russian forward oozes vision and creativity. There may not be a better stickhandler available in this draft. Goldobin has lighning quick hands and wrists and executes with a certain level of smoothness. He is a player that makes things look easy on the ice. Takes extended shifts. Top 2 line player but a bit of a gamble.
