It was all right there for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. With about five minutes remaining in the third period, newly signed winger Brandon Saad scored his first goal of the season to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead.
And then it all fell apart. The New York Rangers roared right back to tie the game less than a minute later. That was remarkable by itself, but not nearly as incredible as what happened next. Shortly after, Rangers winger Kevin Hayes picked up the puck almost parallel with the Blue Jackets net and fired a prayer at goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.
It was answered.
You could line up that shot a hundred times and Hayes might never score from that angle again. But that one time was enough, as the Rangers went on to win 4-2 on the back of an impossible goal.
