Goaltender Thomas Greiss was the victim of a very unfortunate play Monday evening. In a scoreless game against the visiting Colorado Avalanche, the New York Islanders netminder assisted on the opening goal halfway through the first period -- just not for his own team.
Avalanche forward Blake Comeau started what looked to be a routine wrap-around after picking up his initial rebound from Greiss. When Comeau got to the other side of the net, he flipped the puck off the backhand on the net, but the puck instead flipped over Greiss' shoulder and glove completely, landing in the net for a Colorado score. Greiss accidentally assisted on the play, as while he was falling back to swat the puck away, he hit it in with the heel of his stick.

It's possible Colorado's Cody McLeod would have batted the puck out of the air if Greiss did not get to it first, but it's good for the Islanders netminder that they don't count accidental assists on the stat sheet.
