If it wasn't already apparent that Alex Ovechkin is an all-time great NHL forward, his historic goal on Tuesday should make it even more abundantly clear.
The Washington Capitals captain scored his 50th goal of the season against the Carolina Hurricanes, making him the first player this season to hit the half-century goal mark. In fact, he's a full ten goals ahead of his closest competitor (Steven Stamkos, 40 goals). His 50th was a typical Ovi snipe down the left wing.
Becoming the first player to 50 goals this year isn't even the most impressive thing about the score. It's the sixth time in his career that Ovechkin has scored that many times.
The only other players with that on their resume? You might have heard of some of them.

Oh, and his 474 tallies ties Peter Bondra for the Capitals all-time goal scoring lead. That Ovechkin guy is pretty good.
