Already down 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, you’ll forgive Capitals fans a few moments of doubt. A win on Saturday evening at home would go a long way toward alleviating those feelings.
Washington mounted a late assault on the Penguins net in Game 1 but fell just short after Sidney Crosby’s two second-period goals set the tone. The Capitals will miss top-four defenseman Karl Alzner yet again in Game 2 as a lingering upper-body injury keeps him out of his sixth straight game.
Pittsburgh could be without winger Carl Hagelin after he missed an optional morning skate on Saturday. He’s a game-time decision. The speedy winger hasn’t played since March 10. The Capitals will scratch slumping winger Brett Connolly and replace him with Paul Carey on the fourth line.
