(Sports Network) - The Flyers and Florida Panthers meet for the second time in just over a week this evening, this time at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center.
These two clubs squared off in Florida last Friday, with the Panthers skating to a 4-2 victory. Radek Dvorak scored the game-winner in the third period and Scott Clemmensen made 25 saves.
The victory was the Panthers' ninth in their last 13 games versus the Flyers. That run includes four wins in six trips to Philadelphia as well.
Philadelphia then had six days to sit on that loss, as it was out of action until beginning a three-game homestand on Thursday versus the Bruins. The Flyers were able to snap a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout victory over Boston.
Chris Pronger, Darroll Powe and Arron Asham all scored in regulation before Claude Giroux notched the lone shootout tally. The Bruins' Michael Ryder followed Giroux with a quick shot that beat Ray Emery, but rang off the left post.
"There are great shooters on this team, but I didn't want to let the guys down," said Giroux, who also scored versus Florida. "I was pretty happy to score. I like it, there's more pressure and responsibility."
Emery ended with 23 saves. He had stopped 24 shots in the loss to Florida, while Asham also scored in that loss.
Philadelphia, which is 2-1-1 at home this year, improved to just 13-25 in shootouts.
The Panthers were involved in a shootout of their own last night, falling to the Penguins, 3-2. Tomas Vokoun made 41 saves, but gave up a power-play and short-handed goal to Sidney Crosby in the third period before getting beat by Pittsburgh's captain for the only goal of the extra frame.
"At this point we've given a lot of opportunities away," Florida defenseman Keith Ballard said. "To have one where we're beating a good team for two periods and to have that kind of third period, it's frustrating."
Steve Reinprecht gave Florida an early lead with a pair of goals, giving him four tallies in three games. That includes a goal versus the Flyers last week.
Cory Stillman had a pair of assists for the Panthers, who have lost two straight and six of seven to fall to 2-5-1 on the season.
