Recap: Montreal vs. NY Rangers

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Mike Cammalleri's third goal of the game came at the 2:42 mark of overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 5-4 win over the New York Rangers at Bell Centre.

Cammalleri grabbed a loose puck in his own zone and headed down the other end. From the right wing he brought the puck into the New York zone, cut into the middle and let loose with a wrister past the glove of Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist for the win.

Cammalleri recorded his third career hat trick and added an assist, while Matt D'Agostini and Marc-Andre Bergeron each had a goal for the Canadiens, who have won three straight after dropping their previous five. Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves for the win.

"That was a special win for us," said Cammalleri. "It was a test for us cause the Rangers are a good hockey team. We were down a couple of goals so it was a special night for a big win. To get the hat trick was also very special."

Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist, while Ales Kotalik netted his fifth goal of the season for the Rangers, who have dropped their past three games. Lundqvist was tagged for five goals on 31 shots.

"The effort was there, but they came out and really came at us," said New York coach John Tortorella. "We had a huge mistake on our power play, turning it over that caused a goal. We took a couple of penalties that put us in a jam."

The Canadiens struck first in the game on Cammalleri's third goal of the season just 4:16 in, but it was all New York for the rest of the period.

A bit over five minutes after the Montreal goal, New York tied the game as Artem Anisimov's shot from a sharp angle at the right side found the back of the net.

The Rangers continued to attack the Montreal zone and were able to take the lead with 5:18 to play in the period. Dan Girardi kept a clearing attempt in at the right point and was able to get the puck low. Sean Avery grabbed the puck behind the net and sent it out front where Kotalik one-timed it in.

In the final minute of play, Matt Gilroy's slap shot from the right point went through a screen and got past Halak for a 3-1 lead.

The results were opposite for the second period as the Habs tied the game in the frame.

The first goal came 8:48 in as Brandon Dubinsky turned the puck over in the neutral zone, resulting in a break the opposite way. Maxim Lapierre caught up to the puck and from the left side dished it over to the right for an easy score by D'Agostini.

Gaborik made it a two-goal game again about three minutes later, as he skated in on a breakaway and went backhand to forehand before slipping the puck past Halak.

However, the Habs got a power-play goal as Bergeron's one-timer from the right point beat Lundqvist clean at the 15:26 mark, and with 1:02 left Cammalleri's second goal of the game on a wrister from the slot made it a 4-4 game heading into the final period.

The Canadiens host the Islanders on Monday...The Rangers host Phoenix on Monday...These teams split the series last season...Gaborik has eight goals and seven assists on the season...New York went 0-for-2 on the power play while Montreal finished the game 1-for-4.
