Recap: Ottawa vs. NY Rangers

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - P.A. Parenteau scored the decisive goal in the seventh round of the shootout, as the New York Rangers edged the Ottawa Senators, 2-1, at Scotiabank Place.

Vinny Prospal registered a short-handed goal in regulation for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game slide. Henrik Lundqvist finished with 35 saves in the win.

Brian Lee lit the lamp and Brian Elliott stopped 27 shots for the Senators, who have lost five of seven.

"(Elliott) played great tonight. It's too bad we couldn't win that one in a shootout for him," Lee said.

Ales Kotalik opened the second round of the extra segment by firing a wrister past the glove of Elliott. Daniel Alfredsson then beat Lundqvist with a forehand-backhand deke. Both Prospal and Ottawa's Jason Spezza scored in the third round.

The shootout remained tied until Parenteau lifted a shot over Elliott's glove. Milan Michalek was the last hope for the Senators and his backhand try sailed over the net.

"I could feel it the whole game that (Elliott) wasn't going to give up too many goals tonight so I had to be sharp," Lundqvist said. "It was a fun game to play, a lot of action."

Lee opened the scoring at 4:29 of the middle stanza, then Prospal hammered a feed from Marian Gaborik to complete an odd-man rush and tie the game at 10:58 of the second.

Ottawa went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Rangers failed to convert on four opportunities with the man advantage...New York has won five of the last eight meetings.
