(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to continue their mastery of the Atlanta Thrashers tonight when the teams meet for a battle at Philips Arena.
The Flyers have won 14 straight games against the Thrashers overall and have also taken nine consecutive meetings in Atlanta. The 14 consecutive victories is the longest active winning streak versus a single opponent in the NHL and matches Philadelphia's longest stretch against one club. The Flyers also beat Los Angeles 14 straight times from April 1, 1978-January 5, 1982.
The Thrashers haven't tasted victory in this series in over four years since claiming a 6-5 overtime decision in Philadelphia on November 18, 2005.
However, Atlanta has won its last two games, picking up road wins in Detroit and Carolina, and has also recorded a point in three straight contests (2-0-1).
The Thrashers are coming off an unbelievable comeback victory against the Hurricanes on Friday. Carolina led 4-1 after two periods on its home ice, but Atlanta exploded for five unanswered goals in the third to win the game by a 6-4 count.
Rich Peverley registered the go-ahead goal in the thrilling win at RBC Center. Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and an assist, while Evander Kane, Slava Kozlov, Maxim Afinogenov and Marty Reasoner also tallied for Atlanta. Ondrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 36 shots for the win.
"I put him with Todd White and Bryan Little for a little bit," Thrashers head coach John Anderson said about changing lines with Kovalchuk. "Then I put him back with Afinogenov and (Nik) Antropov and they were pretty spectacular with their passing and they played really well together."
Atlanta is kicking off a three-game homestand tonight and will try to get back on track at Philips Arena after dropping its last three games there. Overall, the Thrashers are just 4-5-2 as the host this season.
The Flyers are coming off a loss as they dropped a home test Friday afternoon against Buffalo. Tim Connolly scored two goals -- both in the third period -- and added two assists, as the Sabres beat Philly, 4-2, at the Wachovia Center.
Mike Richards and Braydon Coburn both scored for the Flyers, who have lost four of their last five games.
"We had some chances," Richards said. "We just didn't capitalize on them like they did."
Ray Emery allowed all four goals on 25 shots to lose his fourth straight start. Brian Boucher is expected to get the start in goal for the Flyers tonight.
Philadelphia will have forward Danny Briere back tonight following a two-game suspension for delivering a hit to the head of Colorado's Scott Hannan on Monday. The 32-year-old Briere has 10 goals and six assists this season and registered six points (3 goals, 3 assists) over his last four contests.
The Flyers are 5-5-0 as the guest this year, but were able to halt a three- game road slide in Wednesday's win over the New York Islanders.
