(Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers hope to record a season-high fourth straight win tonight and a second victory in as many nights over the Hurricanes, as the two teams conclude a home-and-home set at Carolina's RBC Center.
The Panthers notched their third straight win in last night's 6-3 victory at BankAtlantic Center. Rostislav Olesz and Radek Dvorak both had a goal and two assists, while Florida defensemen Jordan Leopold, Bryan McCabe and Keith Ballard also scored.
Dominic Moore added a short-handed tally and Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves in the win, which stretched the Panthers' point streak to five games (4-0-1). Florida will try to record its first four-game win streak tonight since a seven-game burst from March 2-16, 2008.
"I thought we were on top of the their (defensemen) all night and we get a lot of chances when we do that," said Florida forward Stephen Weiss.
The Panthers, who are eighth in the conference with 37 points, begin a three- game road trip tonight and are 9-8-2 on the road this season.
They will take on a Hurricanes club that is 7-7-2 at home compared to 1-13-4 on the road. Carolina begins a four-game homestand tonight.
Eric Staal, Patrick Dwyer and Scott Walker lit the lamp last night for Carolina, which has lost four of its last five and is last in the league with 22 points.
"We have to do a better job defensively," Staal said. "We got beat to too many pucks down low. They capitalized and found the net."
Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward got the hook after surrendering five goals on 26 shots in nearly 45 minutes of work. Manny Legace faced only two shots the rest of the way, yielding the goal to Moore.
The Panthers have won two of three over the Hurricanes this year, but have lost three of their last four at Carolina. The 'Canes posted a 7-2 home win over the Panthers on October 9, getting goals from seven different skaters.
Vokoun allowed five of those goals on 26 shots, while Ward made 25 saves in the victory.
