Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Marc-Andre Fleury made 37 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Sidney Crosby, Bill Guerin and Tyler Kennedy each had a goal for the Penguins, who have won two of their last three.
"There were certainly areas of this game that were big for us tonight," said Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma. "Our goaltending and specials teams were big."
Mark Giordano scored the lone goal while Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 24 shots for the Flames, who have lost four of their last five.
"We had 18 or 19 quality scoring chances tonight and we were only able to capitalize on one of them," said Calgary coach Brent Sutter. "One goal a night is tough to win games."
The Pens got the only goal of the first period as Crosby's wrister beat Kiprusoff for his 30th goal of the season just 3:52 in.
Fleury turned aside 10 shots in the first period to keep Calgary off the board.
Calgary tied the game halfway through the second on the power play as Nigel Dawes passed the puck from the right side to the left where Giordano one-timed it home for his sixth goal of the season.
However, the Pens grabbed the lead back just 1:13 later as Sergei Gonchar's slap shot from the high slot was tipped into the net by Guerin for a 2-1 advantage.
Fleury stopped Dawes on a breakaway less than a minute into the third period to preserve the one-goal lead.
Fleury continued to make big saves throughout the third and Kennedy sealed the win with 1:40 to play as his backhander in front beat Kiprusoff.
Pittsburgh continues its five-game road trip in Edmonton on Thursday...Calgary hosts Nashville on Friday...Pittsburgh has won three straight against Calgary...Each team went 1-for-5 on the power play.
