Sports Network | March 20, 2010
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Colby Armstrong notched a pair of goals as Atlanta stymied Philadelphia, 5-2, in the front end of a home-and-home set from Philips Arena.
Niclas Bergfors, Nik Antropov each posted a goal and one assist for the Thrashers, who have won three in a row and moved within a point of idle Boston for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
Johan Hedberg made 25 stops, 15 in the third period alone, for the win.
"We're just finding ways to win, especially the last couple games, which were big," said Armstrong. "The last game we let up in the last 10 minutes but were able to get back in it. Tonight, though, for the most part, we played hard for all 60 minutes."
Dan Carcillo and Blair Betts provided the offense for the Flyers, who have lost three of four.
Brian Boucher struggled in net, allowing all five goals on 28 shots in the loss for Philadelphia, which is in a three-way tie for the fifth spot in the East following Ottawa's regulation loss and Montreal's shootout defeat in Toronto. All three teams have 79 points.
"You can talk the talk, but it comes down to how you walk," said Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette. "Tonight, they walked with a really good swagger and good pace, and we played like it was just another game."
Atlanta took a 4-2 advantage at 9:43 of the third, when Bryan Little's poke of Clarke MacArthur's failed breakaway chance slid under Boucher.
It was 5-2 for the home team with 1:59 left in regulation, when Armstrong tapped home a Tobias Enstrom feed at the right post.
Bergfors poked home a rebound at the side of the net just 1:48 into the contest, then Atlanta went up 2-0 on Armstrong's 14th of the season at 5:42.
Carcillo halved the Flyers' deficit at 8:16, but Antropov restored the Thrashers' two-goal lead just after the midway point of regulation.
Betts then deposited his eighth goal of the year past Hedberg, drawing Philly within one at 14:34, but the equalizer was elusive until intermission.
After dropping 14 in a row, Atlanta has taken three straight over the Flyers this season...Enstrom and MacArthur each posted two assists for the Thrashers...The clubs complete the season series on Sunday in Philadelphia.
