Recap: Chicago vs. Detroit
Sports Network | December 20, 2009
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Cristobal Huet stopped all 20 shots he faced to post his third shutout of the season as Chicago downed Detroit, 3-0, at United Center.
Duncan Keith, Brian Campbell and Dustin Byfuglien lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who have won four straight games and six of seven.
Chris Osgood made 32 saves in defeat for the Red Wings, who have dropped two in a row after winning four straight.
Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said the team got caught a couple times long in shifts.
"I don't think fatigue was a factor," Lidstrom said of Detroit losing, 4-3, at Dallas Saturday. "I didn't notice it out there on the ice. They spent a lot of time in our zone and that's a concern we have that we can't get the puck out of our own zone."
Keith's power-play blast from the left point less than eight minutes into the contest staked Chicago to the lead.
"I just try to get it on net," said Keith. "On the power plays I'm trying to shoot the puck and get the puck on net, nothing much more than that."
The Blackhawks padded the advantage with a pair of goals inside the final four minutes of the second period. Campbell's snapshot made it 2-0 at 16:05 and Byfuglien recorded his 10th of the season at 19:27 on a long shot from the slot.
Huet, who stopped five shots in each of the first two periods, closed out the game with 10 saves in the final 20 minutes of play.
Chicago has won three of the last four meetings...Huet picked up his 23rd career whitewash and his sixth with the Blackhawks...Detroit was blanked for the fourth time in 14 games...Blackhawks right wing Marian Hossa played in his first game against the Red Wings, the team he played for last season.
