(Sports Network) - The Columbus Blue Jackets will try to record three straight wins for the first time since mid-November when they welcome the Dallas Stars for tonight's clash at Nationwide Arena.
The Blue Jackets are coming off wins in back-to-back nights over Edmonton and Calgary and are attempting to notch three victories in a row for the first time since November 13-19. Despite winning its last two tilts, Columbus still has just five victories (5-14-7) in 26 games since its last three-game winning streak ended.
Columbus, which is tied for 13th in the Western Conference with 43 points, put together its last two wins on the road and will try to win for just the third time in 10 home games tonight. The Blue Jackets are 9-7-5 as the host this season.
The Jackets notched a 4-2 win Thursday in Edmonton and recorded a 3-2 victory the following night against the Flames. Antoine Vermette had a goal and two assists to lead the way in Friday's victory at the Saddledome.
Raffi Torres had a goal and an assist while Jan Hejda also lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets. Mathieu Garon stopped 20 shots to record the 100th win of his career, while Vermette's goal was the 100th of his career.
"We played tonight the same we did for most of last year," said Columbus head coach Ken Hitchcock. "If we keep playing like this we can give ourselves a chance to win every night."
Garon is likely to get his third straight start tonight for Columbus. Steve Mason, last year's Calder Trophy winner as the league's top rookie, hasn't played since starting on Tuesday against Vancouver. Mason was pulled in that game after allowing six goals on 17 shots.
In other news, Columbus forward Fredrik Modin is questionable for tonight after sitting out Friday's game with a lower-body injury.
The Stars come into tonight on a positive note after ending a three-game losing streak with a close win Friday evening against the visiting New York Islanders.
However, Dallas can end another losing streak tonight as it's dropped six straight road games since winning in San Jose on December 11. The Stars, who are opening a three-game road trip tonight, are just 7-9-6 as the visiting club this year.
Loui Eriksson and Brad Richards each had a goal and an assist to lead the Stars to Friday's 4-3 win over the Islanders. New York held a 3-2 edge in the second period, but Brenden Morrow and Richards scored later in the stanza to stake Dallas to the win.
Toby Petersen also scored for Dallas and Marty Turco stopped 19 shots for the win.
"We got some good efforts tonight from a number of people in our lineup," Stars head coach Marc Crawford said. "I like the resolve in our team."
Stars defenseman Nicklas Grossman missed the Isles' game with a lower-body injury and is questionable for this evening's tilt.
Dallas and the Blue Jackets have split two meetings this year, but tonight's test marks the first matchup in Columbus. The Stars have won seven of 10 overall in the series and have taken four straight, five of six and nine of their last 11 games in Ohio.
