Sports Network | February 3, 2010

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - The nightmare continues for Minnesota at American Airlines Center.

Dallas netminder Marty Turco turned aside 40 shots to backstop the Stars to a 4-2 win over the Wild. Minnesota is winless in its last 12 trips to the Lone Star State, going 0-9-3 since posting a 3-2 overtime win on March 21, 2003.

Mike Modano and Jamie Benn both registered a goal and an assist for the Stars, who went 3-1-0 on their homestand and have won six of nine overall. Dallas also received goals from James Neal and Brad Richards.

"The guys played a solid game," Turco said.

Guillaume Latendresse and Andrew Brunette tallied for the Wild, who have lost two straight after blanking Colorado to begin their three-game road trip.

With starting netminder Niklas Backstrom sitting out a fourth straight game and backup Josh Harding nursing a hip injury, it meant a surprise start for journeyman Wade Dubielewicz, who was called up from Houston of the American Hockey League earlier Tuesday.

The diminutive stopper made 14 saves on 18 shots in his first NHL action since March 13, 2009, when he was a member of the Blue Jackets.

Backstrom had been hampered by an aching back last week and now is battling an illness.

"I felt fine. It's just one of those tough games where there's not much rubber and you can't make a mistake," Dubielewicz said. "I just wasn't good enough and it's a missed opportunity."

Benn fired a sizzling wrister high over Dubielewicz with 3:04 left in regulation, just 53 seconds after Brunette lit the lamp to draw Minnesota within 3-2.

Neal staked Dallas to a 1-0 lead, redirecting Karlis Skrastins' point shot past the glove of Dubielewicz with nine minutes left in the opening frame.

Richards' rising shot beat a screened Dubielewicz on the power play at the 12:54 mark of the second period.

Minnesota got on the board via the man advantage. Latendresse stationed himself in the low slot and deflected a blast from Brent Burns that squeezed through Turco with 50 seconds remaining in the middle stanza.

However, Modano restored a two-goal cushion 25 seconds later. Brenden Morrow sent a cross-ice pass to the right circle for the veteran forward and he uncoiled a shot that hit the Wild netminder and fluttered across the goal line.

Dubielewicz became the first goalie not named Backstrom or Harding to start a game for Minnesota since Manny Fernandez on March 6, 2007...Both clubs are in action Thursday. The Stars visit Columbus, while the Wild return to St. Paul and open a five-game homestand against Edmonton.
