Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Travis Zajac scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout as the New Jersey Devils got by the New York Rangers, 3-2, in preseason action at Prudential Center.
David Clarkson tallied twice for New Jersey, which got eliminated from the playoffs by Carolina in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in April.
Yann Danis got the start between the pipes for the Devils and turned aside 28 of 30 shots.
The Devils announced on Wednesday that forward Patrik Elias is expected to miss 3-to-6 weeks with groin issues after undergoing a procedure to break up scar tissue in his groin which had built up over the last four seasons.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 16-of-17 shots in goal for the Rangers, before Chad Johnson took over near the midway point of the second period and allowed one goal on 20 shots.
Matt Gilroy and Jordan Owens scored for the Rangers, who were knocked out of the postseason by Washington in the conference quarterfinals last season.
