Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jamie Tardif scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-1, in preseason action at Joe Louis Arena.
Kris Draper and Jeremy Williams also scored for Detroit, which lost to Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Finals in seven games last season.
James Howard started in net for the Red Wings and allowed one goal on seven shots, before giving way to Daniel Larsson at the midway point of the second period. Larsson stopped all 14 shots he faced.
James Van Riemsdyk tallied for the Flyers, who were eliminated by Stanley Cup champion Penguins in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in April.
Ray Emery, who the Flyers signed as a free agent in the offseason, got the starting nod between the pipes and gave up two goals on 25 shots. Brian Boucher allowed one goal on 10 chances in 19:08 of work.
