Recap: NY Rangers vs. Boston

Sports Network | November 1, 2009

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Henrik Lundqvist stopped all 29 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season and 150th career victory as the New York Rangers edged Boston, 1-0, at Madison Square Garden.

"It was a fun game. This is what I was used to last year, low scoring and tight," Lundqvist admitted. "I got a little spoiled this year. We have been scoring a lot. The feeling was one mistake could cost us big time."

Marian Gaborik celebrated his return from a two-game absence due to injury with the lone score of the contest for the Rangers, who had dropped five of six coming in.

Tim Thomas made 22 saves in the loss for the Bruins, who had blanked Edmonton at home on Saturday.

Gaborik finally snapped a scoreless tie with a wrister off a 3-on-2 break with 4:09 left in the second period. Vinny Prospal provided the pass from the left wing to the high slot, where the veteran sniper beat Thomas high to the glove side.

"His work ethic is unbelievable. He is a great playmaker," Gaborik said of linemate Prospal. "He goes there and works hard. He sees the ice, you can see that every night out there."

Lundqvist survived a stretch early in the third period where the Bruins had back-to-back power plays, and kept the Bruins off the board with a pair of saves during the stretch, both with the glove on shots from just outside the crease.

Thomas was pulled for an extra skater with 1:09 to play but the Bruins were powerless against a stingy Rangers defense.

The Rangers have won the last four games over the Bruins at MSG...Lundqvist now has 21 career shutouts and an overall record of 150-87-35...Five of the last nine games between the clubs have ended with one team being shut out...Both teams are in action on Tuesday, with New York starting a Canadian road trip in Vancouver and Boston traveling to Detroit.
