Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Chris Osgood made 20 saves, and Tomas Holmstrom's team-leading seventh goal of the season proved to be the game- winner, as Detroit closed out a five-game road trip with a 3-1 win over Calgary at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Brad Stuart and Kirk Maltby also scored for the Red Wings, who posted a 2-1-2 record during their trek.
Daymond Langkow provided the lone tally for the Flames, who wrapped up a five- game residency with a 3-2-0 mark. Miikka Kiprusoff allowed two goals on 29 shots in defeat.
After a scoreless first period, Langkow opened the scoring with 5:17 remaining in the middle stanza. Stuart tied the game 25 seconds later and Detroit moved ahead 59 seconds later on Holmstrom's marker.
"It was a tight game. We got the lead, and the next two or three shifts we made mistakes," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter. "We didn't generate a whole lot offensively. We never put enough pucks towards the net. We still want to make the perfect plays in the offensive zone."
Maltby cemented the win with an empty-net tally in the final minute of regulation.
The Red Wings have won seven of the last 11 meetings with Calgary...Detroit hosts the Bruins on Tuesday...Calgary travels to Dallas to battle the Stars on Wednesday.
