Recap: St. Louis vs. Minnesota

Sports Network | October 24, 2009

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - David Perron notched a goal and an assist, as the St. Louis Blues got by the Minnesota Wild, 3-1, at Scottrade Center.

Jay McClement and Brad Boyes also tallied for the Blues, who claimed their first win on home ice this season. St. Louis has won two of the last three after dropping the previous three contests.

Chris Mason was steady between the pipes for the Blues, stopping 20 of 21 shots.

Chuck Kobasew registered the lone goal for Minnesota, which has lost six of its last seven. Niklas Backstrom made 23 saves in defeat.

St. Louis drew first blood 56 seconds into the contest when McClement gathered his own rebound and put it home from in close.

"That was no question our best first period of the year, We came out determined, We had a game plan and we stuck to it," Mason said.

The Blues then notched a short-handed tally 5:21 into the second stanza to make it a 2-0 game. A big save by Mason led to a two-on-one rush with Perron carrying the puck and firing a wrist shot from the right circle that got by Backstrom low to the glove side.

Kobasew drew Minnesota to within a goal at 18:42 when he chipped the puck home on a goal-mouth scramble that just squeezed past Mason.

Both teams played a solid defensive third period, and Boyes scored into an empty net with 15 seconds remaining to seal the win.

"Our guys were just running out of gas a little bit [in the third period]. It was tough to get it in their zone and get opportunities," Wild head coach Todd Richards said.

Kobasew registered his first goal since being acquired from Boston...The Blues won three of their four meetings with the Wild last year, winning both encounters at Scottrade Center. Minnesota has now lost five of its last eight in St. Louis.
