Colts vs Chargers, Monday Night Football: Betting odds, preview, trends, & pick

USA TODAY Sports

San Diego has dominated the Colts over the years, but Indy is favored on Monday Night Football odds.

The Indianapolis Colts are 3-0 SU and ATS over their last three games but they face a team that has dominated them over the years when they visit the San Diego Chargers on Monday night.

The Colts are a 1-point road favorite, according to most sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, but they own a money-losing 1-6 ATS streak against the Chargers.

Indianapolis, however, owns an impressive 8-1 ATS run on Monday Night Football that they will try to extend.

Since making a trade to shore up their running game by acquiring Trent Richardson from the Cleveland Browns, the Indianapolis Colts have seemingly established themselves as a legitimate playoff contender.

The Colts blew out the San Francisco 49ers 27-7 as a 10.5-point road underdog three weeks ago, blew out the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars 37-3 two weeks ago, and then handed the Seattle Seahawks their first loss of the season last week. Indianapolis looks great on both sides of the ball.

The San Diego Chargers have had an up-and-down season early in 2013, and last week was one of the lows. The Chargers were dominated by the Oakland Raiders, failing to get anything going on offense until late in the game and eventually losing 27-17 as a 5.5-point road favorite.

The week before, the Chargers were outshooting the Dallas Cowboys 30-21 at home. San Diego has alternated wins and losses since losing its opening game with a 2-3 SU and 3-1-1 ATS record thus far.

The total has gone UNDER in each of Indianapolis' last five road games and in four of San Diego's five games this season. The total has also gone UNDER in four of the last six games between the Colts and the Chargers. This Monday night's total is set at 49.5 points.

While Indianapolis appears to be the better team this season, this is a potential "sandwich game" trap spot for the Colts. After defeating the NFC's best team in a tough battle last week against Seattle, the Colts face the AFC's toughest team in the undefeated Denver Broncos next week.

If the Colts are tired from last week's game or looking ahead to next week's, they could get caught off guard by the Chargers.

Computer Prediction: The Odds Shark computer says Indy will win 33-21.
