Seahawks vs. Saints, 'Monday Night Football': Betting odds, pick

Wesley Hitt

Almost all the trends point to Seattle covering the spread against New Orleans Monday night. But one suggests the Seahawks will not and that the Saints will buck the Week 13 odds.

There are so many trends pointing to the Seattle Seahawks winning the Week 13 Monday nighter against visiting New Orleans that betting on the Saints appears to be a very risky proposition.

But there is one curious angle that may give Seattle bettors, who have seen the line hold steady around -5 all week, some pause before putting their money down tonight.

It's the weird money-losing trend when Seattle is coming off a bye week. In the past 14 seasons, that extra week of preparation and rest has doomed Seahawks bettors to a 2-11-1 ATS run.

"It's a weird trend and hard to explain, but sometimes, you have to get out of the way of a trend like this," said Jack Randall of OddsShark.com. "Same story with Lady Luck. Sometimes, you just don't want to mess with her."

Otherwise, it seems to be all systems go for Seattle backers. The Seahawks have won 13 straight at home and ride a 5-1-1 ATS streak on Monday nights.

They are also 8-3 ATS in 11 recent games as home favorites and 6-1 ATS vs. NFC South teams the past three seasons. The home has also won six of the past eight meetings between these teams dating back to 1991.

Throw in a terrible Saints streak as a road team (2-6 ATS) and the fact they are just 2-6-1 ATS in their past nine games against NFC West teams, and you seemingly have a recipe for a successful Seahawks bet.

The Saints, however, are 6-1 ATS in their past seven MNF games and are always a threat with Drew Brees at the controls. But can they deal with a ferocious Seahawks defense and a deafening Seattle home crowd?

There are also plenty of OVER trends in play here and you have to expect that both teams will fight to the end and throw caution to the wind. The winner is in line for home field through the NFC playoffs.

The OVER is 12-1 in 13 recent games for Seattle after a bye week and the past three between these teams have played OVER.

When Seattle hosts an NFC South team, the past five have also played OVER the number, according to the Odds Shark NFL database.
