South Carolina vs. Georgia: Betting odds favor Dawgs

Mike Zarrilli

South Carolina has dominated Georgia against the spread and they are underdogs this week on college football odds menus. The computer like the Gamecocks as well over the Bulldogs.

South Carolina looks to continue a 15-year reign of against-the-spread terror against rival Georgia as two of the SEC East's top teams clash at Sanford Stadium.

The No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs, facing a must-win game to retain any hope of BCS title consideration, host the No. 6 Gamecocks, who are 10-3-2 ATS in this annual battle. Georgia, however, was a 3-point favorite at midweek, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

South Carolina will be the second straight elite opponent that Georgia has to play, coming off of a 38-35 shootout loss on the road against the Clemson Tigers in Week 1. The offense looked sharp racking up 545 total yards and five rushing touchdowns, but Clemson's offense was even better. The Bulldogs face a much tougher defense this week, but on the bright side have home field and a less scary offense to deal with.

South Carolina won and covered as an 11-point favorite last week at home against UNC, taking a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and coasting to a 27-10 win. The Gamecocks' recipe for success looked the same as last year's: eat clock with a dominant running game (38 rushes for 228 yards) and let the defense do the rest. Quarterback Connor Shaw only threw 20 passes all game.

This series has been all South Carolina in recent years. The Gamecocks are 4-2 SU and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games against the Bulldogs, and 3-0 SU and ATS in the last three games against their SEC East rivals. This series has also leaned heavily towards defense; since 1998, the total has gone UNDER in 13 of 15 meetings between Georgia and South Carolina.

This is a huge game for both teams. Both teams came into the year with BCS Championship aspirations, and the winner of this game will keep that dream alive and take an early stranglehold of the SEC East. Even though the game is in Georgia, too many signs point to the Gamecocks here.

They have dominated this head-to-head series, the Bulldogs' defense looks vulnerable, and Aaron Murray is 3-11 SU all-time against Top 25 opponents. Look for the Gamecocks to take it on the road.

PICK: South Carolina +3.0 -0 computer says 34-24 South Carolina
