France has to feel a little lucky to be drawn into one of the weaker groups and there is pressure on them after their disaster in the 2010 World Cup.
The Swiss may be a dark horse this summer, but their offense is a big concern. Ecuador qualified for the World Cup mainly because of their home record and Honduras is the big underdog that may not get a point this summer in group play.
Odds to win Group E: -150
Odds to finish bottom of group: +2000
Odds to win World Cup: +2200
The French have a talented squad that has solid odds to win the World Cup overall, but will they step up or implode like they did in 2010? Les Blues has a great midfield led by veteran Franck Ribery and young up and coming star Paul Pogba from Juvetnus.
Karim Benzema is the main striker on the squad, but the attacking midfield should really cause problems for other teams in the group.
The French barely qualified for Brazil, needing a HUGE second leg comeback against Ukraine in a European qualifying tie, but they are a talented bunch again and if they do not make it out of the group stage it would be a major disappointment.
Odds to win group: +275
Odds to finish bottom of group: +900
Odds to win World Cup: +10000
Switzerland comes into the World Cup after winning their European qualifying group, which was a weak one, and a midfield that may be one of the most underrated in the world.
They play back on defense and do not attack much, as the Swiss win low scoring affairs. Xherdan Shaqiri is the main guy in the MF and young FW Haris Seferovic will be counted on to lead the attack.
Switzerland may be flying under the radar this summer, but they did beat Brazil in a friendly at the end of last year.
World Cup 2014
Odds to win group: +400
Odds to finish bottom of group: +500
Odds to win World Cup: +125000
Ecuador is playing on their home continent, but they not only have +400 to win Group E, but the worst odds of any South American squad to win the World Cup. They qualified with a great home record since they play an altitude that really hurts their foes, which they will not have this summer.
Still, they have a good offense led by the relentless FW Jefferson Montero and a good MF attacking duo of Antonio Valencia and Edison Mendez. Still, the defense is a concern and can the squad win away from home?
Odds to win group: +3300
Odds to finish bottom of group: -350
Odds to win World Cup: +200000
Honduras is the big underdog of the group and with good reason since the squad lacks much world-class talent. However, they did beat USA in WC qualifying and in that process the FW duo of Carlos Costly and Jerry Bengtson combined to score 16 goals.
Still, they are outmatched, big time, in the midfield and have to really press the envelope on the offensive side of the pitch to have any chance to advance to the knockout stage.
