Jameis Winston, the top dual-threat quarterback recruit in the country, has signed with Florida State, according to a report by Tomahawk Nation. Winston had been committed to Florida State since early August, but did not sign on National Signing Day because of his participation in an all-star game held in Texas. Winston wanted to sign with his friends and family present, and elected to wait until he returned to his home state of Alabama to do so. Winston plays for Hueytown (Al.) High School.

In addition to his offer from Florida State, the 6'4", 190 pound Winston held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Stanford. He gave consideration to Alabama and Stanford, but reaffirmed his decision to sign with Florida State Wednesday during an interview on ESPNU. After being committed for six months and reiterating his intention on national television, Winston signed with the 'Noles Friday.

Winston is a consensus five-star recruit. With a live arm and excellent athleticism, he is rated as the top dual-threat quarterback in the country. Winston is also an excellent baseball prospect as a pitcher and outfielder. Florida State will need to fight off the Major League Baseball draft this summer to get Winston to Tallahassee.

Jameis Winston To Sign With Florida State Friday

Jameis Winston, the top dual-threat quarterback recruit in the country, is set to sign his letter of intent on Friday. Winston has been committed to Florida State since early August, but did not sign on National Signing Day because of his participation in an all-star game held in Texas. Winston wanted to sign with his friends and family present, and elected to wait until he returned to his home state of Alabama to do so.

The signing ceremony is set to take place between 11:30 and Noon CST. It will be held at The Sports Blast, an indoor sports facility off of U.S. Highway 280 in Shelby County.

In addition to his offer from Florida State, the 6'4", 190 pound Winston held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Stanford. Of those, he gave the most consideration to Alabama and Stanford, but reaffirmed his decision to sign with Florida State Wednesday during an interview on ESPNU. After being committed for six months and reiterating his intention on national television, it would be considered a huge shock if Winston were to sign with anyone but the Seminoles.

Jameis Winston Announcement: Top QB Prospect Commits To Florida State

Jameis Winston, as expected (at least by our vast and feverishly devoted Florida State community), committed to the Seminoles Wednesday afternoon in a televised announcement on ESPN. The nation's top 2012 quarterback prospect held offers from more than twenty top Division I-A programs, including both major SEC powers in his home state of Alabama.

To hear our FSU blog tell it, a personal connection with EJ Manuel may have been the deciding factor in Winston's college choice:

Jameis has very few flaws to his game. He's rated the best dual-threat quarterback in the nation. He passed for over 2300 yards and rushed for another 800 in his 13 game junior season. He only threw three interceptions on the year. His arm strength is good, his running ability is tremendous, and his leadership is one of the most impressive things about his game. During the summer, he was paired up and was buddy-buddy with what could be his future mentor EJ Manuel at the Elite 11 QB camp. His accuracy might be his one downfall. Still, he was the best QB at the Elite 11 camp, and Jimbo Fisher is getting a good one.

It's quite a coup for Jimbo Fisher to lure this kid across state lines. Join the victory dance at Tomahawk Nation.

Jameis Winston, a dual-threat quarterback rated by some outlets as the top QB prospect of the class of 2012, is scheduled to make his college selection at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Rivals ranks Winston as a four-star prospect, the top-ranked 2012 quarterback in the nation, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama.

The rising high school senior hails from Hueytown, Alabama, and holds offers from both the Crimson Tide and Auburn, as well as a couple dozen other high-profile programs, some of which you might recognize: Florida, Miami, LSU, Clemson, Nebraska, UCLA, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Stanford, and Notre Dame all want to lure Winston out of state.

Our recruiting-obsessed Seminole partisan brethren over at Tomahawk Nation have a discussion thread set up for the announcement; head on over to join the impending excitement. One way or another, they'll have a lot to say about whatever develops in the next few minutes.
