Ice hockey is probably the sport most familiar to Americans in the Winter Olympics, thanks to the NHL. During the Game, the league takes a break to allow its players to compete on the world stage, which adds star power and name recognition, but also means there will never be another Lake Placid fairy tale. Vancouver 2010 will be the first Winter Olympics ever to play hockey on a narrower, NHL sized rink, as opposed to the international size.

Everybody expected this to be the gold medal game, or at worst a semi final matchup. The fact that it's a quarterfinal instead means that one of these teams will be going home without a medal, and that day of reckoning is today for either Canada or Russia.
