Chievo vs Napoli preview and TV schedule: Flying Donkeys look to hurt Partenopei's title ambitions yet further

Marco Luzzani

Chievo Verona welcome Napoli to the Bentegodi in a clash of two sides desperate for a victory amidst equally poor runs of form.

After an unexpected away victory against Lazio at the end of January, Chievo have endured a miserable run of form that has seen them go five matches without a victory, losing four with the only point coming in a 1-1 draw at home to bottom of the table Palermo. This woeful run of form has seen the Flying Donkeys slip from a safe-looking mid table position to 16th. Although they are still eight points above the relegation zone, if their current run continues it could see them getting sucked into a relegation scrap, especially as Genoa and Siena immediately below them have started to play in a manner that belies their lowly standing.

At the other end of the table, Napoli have similarly endured a torrid recent time, drawing their last four league matches and getting dumped out of the Europa League by Viktoria Plzen. They sit six points behind Juventus however the problem for the Partenopei has been that they have been simply unable to take advantage of any Juventus slip-ups - when Roma unexpectedly beat Juve, Napoli could only draw and when they had the opportunity to gain three points on their rivals at the Juventus Stadium last Friday, a 1-1 draw was the outcome, meaning that the title race was unchanged by the encounter. Bizarrely for a side including Edinson Cavani, Napoli's issues over the past few matches have been goal related, only managing two across their last four league matches and going down 5-0 on aggregate in their defeat to Plzen.

Chievo will do what Chievo do and look to frustrate a Napoli side desperate for a win to restart their title challenge, and will approach the match in much the same way as they approached their last victorious encounter with a then-Scudetto chasing Lazio. Napoli on the other hand, will need to regain their goalscoring touch gain three points against a side who, based on form and league position, they really should be beating.

Chievo will be missing Nikos Spyropoulos whilst Napoli will be without the unlucky Miguel Britos, who broke his jaw in the draw with Juventus. Hugo Campagnaro could be in the frame to make a return whilst Paolo Cannavaro will miss out through suspension.
