Davide Nicola is the most recent coach to join the unemployment line, with Livorno showing him the door on Monday. But after Amauri scored twice in Parma's 3-0 victory on Saturday, the manager had to know what was coming.
Nicola, aged just 40, has been with Livorno only since the 2012-2013 season, when he steered the club to the playoffs and promotion to Serie A. Prior to being taken on by the amaranto, Nicola had retired from playing to begin his coaching career at his current club, Lega Pro side Lumezzane.
While Nicola was able to achieve promotion with Livorno, it's clear the club are a bit out of their depth. The side currently sit 19th, even on points with bottom-side Catania. They've picked up just one point from their last eight matches. And the club did next to nothing to reinforce their squad ahead of the move to the first division, and although Paulinho may have scored 20 goals in Serie B last season, he's only managed six thus far.
