Less than three weeks ago, Roma went to Turin and came back holding their first loss, beaten 3-0 by the league leaders. Aside from the first fifteen minutes, the visitors barely got in a decent shot, and, with fifteen minutes left to play, frustrations were running high. First Daniele De Rossi got sent off, then Leandro Castán, leaving Roma - formerly unbeaten - completely humbled.
With Roma beating Livorno just a few days ago, Rudi Garcia's had some choices to make, having to sort out who would play in the league and who would rest for Juventus. Antonio Conte, on the other hand, seems to place more importance on keeping Juve's winning streak in the league alive, fielding as near to a full-strength squad as he could against Sampdoria, and choosing to play the reserves in the Coppa.
And so comes the picking and choosing, the weighing of importance: league or Coppa? While Roma are trying to reinforce and strengthen their squad, the balance still tips in Juve's favor, with the bianconeri having better depth than the hosts. But if the giallorossi go all out - because really, what do they have to lose? - they could nick this one. Francesco Totti and Alessandro Florenzi both came off the bench against Livorno, Miralem Pjanić and Gervinho both had some time to rest, and Maicon didn't play at all. Their freshness could make a difference. If Juventus field their weaker players on the flanks, Roma can try to use their width to get in behind the defense, maybe, just maybe, coming away with victory.
There's also the rumor that Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tévez will rest ahead of the match with Lazio, with Conte using Fabio Quagliarella and Sebastian Giovinco to start. Another point in Roma's favor?
