The first half was incredibly dull, and the less that is said about those 45 minutes, the better.
Fortunately, the second half began with a bang. Fabrizio Cacciatore brought down Lazaros inside the area, handing Bologna a penalty. Rolando Bianchi stepped up, sending the shot to his left. Incredibly, Rafael went the right way, pushing the ball out of danger.
Andrea Mandorlini attempted to shake things up around the hour mark, bringing out Michael Rabušic, who'd been rather quiet in his first start, save for one close attempt in the first half, and Boško Janković. Raphael Martinho and Juanito, hoping to jump-start the Verona attack. It was Rômulo, however, who had the best chance for the hosts, catching on the volley and forcing a save from Gianluca Curci.
With both sides frustrated by their inability to score, things got rather heated with ten minutes to go. An altercation between Cristaldo and Vangelis Moras resulted in Cristaldo slapping Moras, although both players saw yellow. Seconds later, the Bologna forward chose to elbow Moras in the face, earning himself a straight red.
But even with the visitors down to ten, Verona still couldn't manage to score. The hosts looked uninspired, lacking a creative spark to get past the rossoblu - and missing a finisher in Luca Toni. It's just the second draw Verona have permitted at the Bentegodi this season, with the first going to Juventus.
