Juventus Vs. Roma: final score 4-1 as Juventus flick aside a flailing Roma squad

It was a rout from the start in Turin, with Juventus scoring three goals inside eight minutes and never looking back. Although AS Roma began brightly enough, as soon as they were threatened, they lost all composure. By the 30th minute, the entire defence were on yellows, while the rest of the team milled about, giving away balls and generally looking clueless. The visitors may have managed to pull one back, but make no mistake: the 4-1 victory was all Juventus.

The meltdown began just after ten minutes. To stop Claudio Marchisio going through on goal, Rodrigo Taddei took him out just outside the area. It very well could have been a red card, but Nicola Rizzoli showed yellow, and Andrea Pirlo set up for the free kick. His shot snipered through an opening in the poorly constructed giallorossi wall for Juventus's first goal.

Four minutes later, the visitors fell apart again. Maarten Stekelenburg came tearing out of goal to stop a Marchisio shot. With the defence exposed, Leandro Castán stuck out his arm to bat away the followup by Alessandro Matri. Rizzoli pointed to the spot, and it was Arturo Vidal who stepped up to easily convert the penalty.

And then, three minutes later, The Old Lady had their first goal from open play. Vidal sent a perfect ball over the top for Matri, alone in front of the Roma goal. Matri easily chested down and quickly put it past Stekelenburg for the third bianconeri goal.

Juventus came out charging after the break. On their first counter-attack, Mirko Vučinić drove his shot toward goal, but a diving Stekelenburg managed to push it away. Moments later, it was Matri trying his luck, but the Dutchman denied him as well. Too little, too late?

Not quite. The visitors managed to get one back through their own penalty conversion. Leonardo Bonucci charged down Mattia Destro inside the area, and Rizzoli showed no hesitation in awarding the spot kick. With Francesco Totti subbed off already, it was Pablo Osvaldo who stepped up. His slow, zig-zagged run put off Gigi Buffon, and the ball slotted easily into the opposite corner.

But the home side showed no mercy. Marchisio went just wide.Vučinić forced Stekelenburg to beat away his shot for a corner, immediately after which Paolo De Ceglie hit the post. Bonucci knocked in the rebound, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the end, though, Juventus managed to grab yet another. Andrea Barzagli pounced on the ball inside his own area, charging forward before sliding the ball through to substitute Sebastian Giovinco. Stekelenburg, exhausted from his impressive second half, was able to do nothing as the Atomic Ant rounded him to give Juve the 4-1 victory.
