Tottenham Hotspur Manager Harry Rednapp Could Face Charges From The Football Association

Harry Rednapp could face charges from the Football Association after his comments about referee Mark Clattenburg and the goal he allowed against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. In the Spurs match against Manchester United, United winger Nani clearly handled the ball while lying in the penalty box, causing Spurs keeper Gomes to believe his team had earned a free kick. Gomes set the ball down for the kick and moved back a few feet. When he did so, Nani, aware that Clattenburg hadn't blown the whistle for the free kick, ran in, took the ball and put it into the empty net.

The Spurs manager was irate, believing that the goal should have been disallowed. Rednapp called the referee's decision "farcial," and "scandalous," stating that Clattenburg, "made a real cock‑up, there's no doubt about that." Rednapp is well-known for running his mouth, but this time his words might result in disciplinary action. The FA will review Rednapp's comments to determine whether or not he was accusing Clattenburg of lacking impartiality, and are particularly focused on what Rednapp said when he was asked if he visited the referee after the game for an explanation. Rednapp said there was no point in paying Clattenburg a visit, as he would simply invent a story to imply that his mistake was correct.
