Fulham May Be Joining Race For Landon Donovan's Services

Landon Donovan hasn't played a competitive soccer match for a month, his Los Angeles Galaxy having been eliminated from the MLS playoffs on Nov. 14. In the past calendar year, he has played 50 competitive matches for three different teams in six separate tournaments. Going back to the start of 2009, he has played in 96 competitive matches for four teams in 10 different tournaments, as he spent the 2009 MLS offseason with Bayern Munich.

Add it all up, and it's perfectly understandable the United States Men's Soccer Team captain might be enjoying this current period of rest. If he decides to play, it appears he'll have plenty of options.

Everton, for whom Donovan played during the second half of the EPL season last year, has long been rumored to be interested in continuing their flirtation. Now, it appears Fulham is among the teams that is also courting Donovan.

Fulham coach Mark Hughes has not mentioned Donovan by name, but recent comments seem to indicate that he could be interested in adding another American to his stable that already includes Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson.

"We are missing a Bobby Zamora-type and he will not be back until the end of January or start of February if everything goes to plan. So if there’s someone we can bring in to help us, we will look at it.

"But more often than not strikers cost a lot of money at Premier League level, so we will have to see."

Fulham currently sits one spot above relegation, tied with Wigan on points but ahead in goal-difference. The Cottagers have scored the third fewest goals in the EPL.

Everton coach David Moyes has also indicated that he's in need of a striker, as his team has scored just two more goals than Fulham and is just two points clear of relegation.
