The victory was sealed in the 85th minute when substitute Jermaine Jones's cross was headed home be Klass-Jan Huntelaar, giving Schalke their two goal cushion.
The win furthers a resurgence for Schalke which, having failed to win in first five Bundesliga and Champions League matches, have picked-up seven points in their last three games.
