Roma Injury Crisis Sees Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi, Philippe Mexes All Doubts For Cesena Match
Roma's fight to get back in title contention has hit another obstacle. After losing 2-1 on Sunday at Sampdoria, the Giallorossi face the prospect of a weekend trip to Cesena without three of their stars. All of Francesco Otti, Daniele de Rossi and Philippe Mexes are either doubtful or out of Sunday's match, according to Football Italia.
Mexes is slated to miss this weekend's match with a thigh strain, though tests conducted earlier this week have given Claudoi Ranieri good news. The French central defender has been diagnosed with something closer to a thigh strain than an originally feared tear. The 28-year-old left this weekend's match at halftime, replaced by Juan, the Brazilian likely to pair with Nicolas Burdisso this weekend.
Daniele de Rossi was held out of Sunday's match entirely, suffering with a right knee problem. Matteo Brighi, Leandro Greco and Simone Perotta got starts in midfield, though the Italy international was expected to return to training this week. That return was short-lived, with de Rossi having to quit Tuesday's training session early.
Likewise, Francesco Totti was unable to finish Tuesday's practice, a "muscular problem" forcing the captain from the field. Totti played sparingly this weekend, brought on as a late substitute for Greco.
