Club America Fire Manager Manuel Lapuente

After a poor start to the 2011 Clausura campaign that saw his side take just one point from their first three games, Club America have sacked manager Manuel Lapuente. America made the Liguilla of the 2010 Apertura and advanced to the semi-finals, but that was not enough to keep chairman Emilio Azcarraga Jean and the Televisa group patient with him. They are believed to be replacing Lapuente with Carlos Reinoso, who previously managed America in the late 1990's.

Interestingly enough, Grupo Televisa also owns Necaxa, the team currently at the bottom of the table and most likely to be relegated at the conclusion of the 2011 Clausura. Their manger Daniel Brailovsky has been rumored to be on the chopping block by the media, but has not yet lost his job. America is a much bigger club than Necaxa, and therefore, there is more pressure and their fanbase is less patient, but it is still interesting that Azcarraga and Televisa would fire Lapuente before firing Brailovsky.

In addition to the Mexican Primera Division, Club America will also be competing in the 2011 Copa Libertadores. They have drawn a difficult group, where they will have to face Argentinos Juniors of Argentina, Nacional of Uruguay, and Fluminense of Brazil.
