We're past the half hour mark at Anfield now, and its still somehow scoreless. Just seconds after Fulham's American striker Clint Dempsey had given goalkeeper Pepe Reina his first real work of the game by smashing a shot towards the bottom corner, Moussa Dembele has wasted a chance to give Fulham the lead. After some very poor defensive work by young right-back Martin Kelly, the ball somehow worked its way to Dembele, who was totally unmarked in the middle of Liverpool's box.
The ball was rolling slowly and the strike should have found the back of the net, but instead the Belgian international snatched at it and his weak shot ended up rolling straight to Reina. If Dembele had managed to put that either side of him, Liverpool would be facing a 1-0 deficit. It's a bit of a wakeup call for Liverpool's defence - Kelly's play in giving the initial ball away less than 30 yards from his goal can be best described as lackadaisical - and the close call will be a bit of a confidence-booster for Fulham.
