10. AJ Soares (Sporting Kansas City)
Andy Edwards (The Daily Wiz): Jimmy Conrad, Jonathon Leathers and Aaron Hohlbein - all defenders capable of playing the centerback spot, all gone from the 2010 roster. This is emphatically a pick of need. Currently only Shavar Thomas and Matt Besler on the roster, so there's going to be depth at the postition added somewhere along the way. Why not start with Soares? Thomas is on the wrong side of 30, and SKC head coach Peter Vermes has his questions about Besler. Soares will (with any luck) be a starting centerback for KC after Thomas is long gone. Soares size make him my personal preference over Jalil Anibaba.
Drew Epperley (WV Hooligan): The need for defense in Kansas City is a big one and landing Soares is a huge pick for Sporting KC. Peter Vermes should be a First Kick starter for this club. His size is perfect for set pieces. He could be the Tim Ream of this draft.
