In a re-hashing of their 2011 Copa America encounter, Chile and Peru face off in the second round of World Cup 2014 qualifying in CONMEBOL. Both teams played in the first matchday, and they secured very different results. Chile were poor away from home against Argentina, while Peru were very impressive at home against Paraguay. The tables will likely be turned on Tuesday with Chile playing at home, but Peru has proven in 2011 that they are no longer bottom feeders in South America. Here are the lineups.
Chile lineup (3-5-2): Bravo; Ponce, Gonzalez, Jara; Isla, Medel, Vidal, Beausejour, Valdivia; Vargas, Suazo
Peru lineup (4-4-2): Fernandez; Revoredo, Rodríguez, Acasiete, Yotun; Balbin, Cruzado, Farfán, Vargas; Guerrero, Pizarro
This could turn into a serious tactical chess match, as both of these teams have some extremely versatile players. Because of the presence of players like Gary Medel, Arturo Vidal and Mauricio Isla, Chile can switch to a 4-3-3, 4-4-2, or 3-4-3 whenever they wish. Peru can also switch their lineup to a 4-3-3 by moving Jefferson Farfan up the pitch and Paolo Guerrero into a wide position.
Kickoff is at 6:45 pm ET.
