Game five of the Jurgen Klinsmann reign has resulted in loss No. 3, with Ecuador defeating the USA 1-0 at Red Bull Arena in an international friendly. The United States picked up their first win under Klinsmann when they defeated Honduras on Saturday, but they appeared to regress a bit on Tuesday, as they struggled to create chances.
Jamie Ayovi was the goal scorer for Ecuador, netting on a header in the 79th minute. Captain Walter Ayovi of CF Monterrey provided the assist, but most of the focus after the goal was on the defending. Ayovi easily beat substitute central defender Tim Ream to the header, as the Red Bulls player showed why he's currently on the outside of the USMNT lineup looking in.
With a number of players looking a bit tired, Klinsmann made four halftime subs and used all six of his available substitutions. The team didn't move well in the first half, and the fresh legs didn't help the team in the second half as they looked disjointed with all of the new additions.
The USMNT will play two more games in November, and the pressure will be on Klinsmann to produce better results than the team has managed thus far.
