Contrary to earlier reports of a serious hamstring injury, Borussia Dortmund have announced that star striker Lucas Barrios suffered a calf strain and a back injury in training Monday morning. An MRI was completed at a local Dortmund hospital, and the diagnosis was made by BVB team physician Dr. Markus Braun.
Barrios, 26, received a pain-killing injection to help with his back. It's undetermined at the moment whether the Paraguayan international will travel with the team to Greece for their UEFA Champions League match against Olympiacos on Wednesday. Manager Jürgen Klopp will make the decision Tuesday morning. This is a must win match for BVB if they have any hopes of making it out of the group.
Robert Lewandowski has filled in admirably for Barrios so far this season, but Dortmund will need the injured forward back if they have plans on Champions League success and recapturing the Bundesliga crown they won last year.
