Arsenal have confirmed that right back Bacary Sagna's injury sustained during the team's match against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane is indeed a broken leg could force the defender out for as long as three months:

The Club can confirm that Bacary Sagna sustained a fracture to the fibula in his right leg during the match against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Further detailed investigations and assessments will take place on Monday, during which time Bacary will see ankle specialists and the Arsenal medical team regarding the further management of his injury.

It is expected that Bacary will be out for approximately three months and a surgical procedure cannot be ruled out at this stage.

There was some faint hope that the reports from France that Sagna had a fracture weren't true, but now that Arsenal have confirmed them things are looking grim indeed. Fortunately for Sagna and the Gunners, this doesn't sound like ligament damage - the recovery time quoted is pretty low for this sort of injury and the fact that surgery may be necessary rather than clearly being necessary is encouraging.

That's not to say that this isn't terrible news anyway - Arsenal are in enough trouble with injuries already, and really didn't need to add this one to their woes.
