Manchester United Vs. Manchester City, 2011 Premier League: United Controlling Possession, Not Really Getting Anywhere

Stay connected with SB Nation

Wayne Rooney gets into the game, the England striker bobbing and weaving his way through the middle of the Manchester City defence by playing a neat one-two with Darren Fletcher. In space 25 yards from goal, Rooney opts to pull 'thunderbolt of a shot' from his bag of tricks. Unfortunately, that's paired with 'right at Joe Hart' to make things rather less exciting.

Moments later, Anderson is livid that he doesn't get a foul after being tackled by Micah Richards when looking to surge up through the centre, where City are looking strangely flimsy. He takes out his anger by trying to snap David Silva's ankle, and isn't fouled because I don't know, life is weird. Manchester United seem to have gotten their mojo back a little bit, however, with Rooney nearly being played through by Danny Welbeck and then Johnny Evans finding himself free for a close-range shot following a corner. He completely misses the kick, though, and the ball bounces off his leg to safety.

Speaking of bookings, Vincent Kompany gets one for a professional foul on Danny Welbeck. Nothing comes of the free kick, which was rather the point. Still 1-0 to City at Old Trafford
