Giuseppe Rossi Injury Is Torn ACL; Villarreal Striker Out 6 Months

Awful news for Villarreal as they look set to lose Guiseppe Rossi for six months following knee surgery.

As if Villarreal's season wasn't going badly enough in the first place, they're now having to contend with a major injury to star striker Giuseppe Rossi. Things didn't actually look that bad when he was forced off the pitch an hour into his team's 3-0 loss against against Real Madrid, but according to reports from Europe, the club have confirmed that the 24-year-old American born forward has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will be out for around six months:

Giuseppe Rossi, delantero del Villarreal, será finalmente operado hoy en Valencia, después de que las pruebas que se le han realizado hayan confirmado que el internacional italiano sufre una rotura del ligamento cruzado interior de la rodilla derecha.

Según confirmó el club castellonense, se han confirmado los peores pronósticos y el futbolista estará, aproximadamente, seis meses de baja.

Obviously, this is terrible news for Villarreal and will make their struggle to escape the relegation spots even more difficult. The Yellow Submarine have won just one game out of nine so far this season, and with arguably their best player sidelined for most of the year, things don't look particularly happy down there. They should still be good enough to avoid the drop, but this is a huge blow.
